- "Intellectual freedom" is a phrase I use often, and I get worried when I don't hear it enough. I value today's satirists -- Steven Colbert, John Stewart, and Bill Maher. They often deliver more accurate news than the "cable news" and network news operations they make fun of. I miss George W. Bush, who made possible the television cartoon "Lil' Bush" as well as the real-life comedy.
- I am retired from public television engineering. I maintained transmitters for Maryland Public Broadcasting.
- I divide my time among writing, geneaogical research, Mensa, local freethought groups, and ham radio with call letters KE3Y. I monitor 7173 kHz for slow scan TV using EasyPal software and post the received files here at www.intelec.us/ham/index.htm. I beacon on the APRS 2-meter net at 144.390 MHz. I make notes on science, human behavior, politics, and philosophy -- for those eventual books to be published.
I live just outside and north of the agreeable city of Huntsville, Alabama with my talented wife, a retired engineer and part time counselor. P.O. Box 485, Meridianville, AL 35759.

On metaphysics:
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away."
-- Phillip K. Dick
On skepticism:
I wish to propose for the reader’s favourable consideration a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true.”
(From “Introduction: On the Value of Scepticism”, Sceptical Essays)
-- Bertrand Russell
On credulity:
"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of 10 special things that he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these 10 things, he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time. But he loves you."
-- Comedian George Carlin, from his HBO special "You Are All Diseased"
